Two Day Woodcarving Course April 18th – 19th

Naas, Newbridge

The Carpentry Store is delighted to welcome renowned American wood carver Mary May to our Classroom this April for several 2-day introduction to woodcarving classes.

If you’ve ever been curious about this craft or are looking to progress your skills then this is a unique opportunity to learn how to carve and practice under the guidance of a professional carver, teacher and author.

Mary will begin by teaching the very basics, sharing the techniques of classical woodcarving that have been used for centuries. She will show you how to carve using the long-handled woodcarving tools, how to get your tools razor sharp and the best ways to carve in the correct grain direction.

Mary will then walk you through the step-by-step process of completing several decorative relief carving projects.

For those that already have some carving experience you are welcome to join the class where Mary will help you through more advanced projects.

Mary May is a European trained professional woodcarver in Charleston, South Carolina. She has trained with a variety of master carvers around the world and has focused on studying the traditional styles and techniques of classical woodcarving. Mary teaches workshops at a variety of locations throughout the United States and Europe. She recently published her first book on Carving the Acanthus Leaf.
