Féile Bríde 2019 Kildare

The Féile Bríde will once again be taking place this year in Kildare Town from January 31st to February 9th, with events celebrating the life of St Brigid.

The Féile Bríde will once again be taking place this year in Kildare Town from January 31st to February 9th. This will be the festival’s 27th year, where the legacy of St Brigid of Kildare is celebrated annually.

The chosen theme of this year’s festival is Brigid: Flame of Justice and Peace, where the core topics education, action, compassion, hope will be touched on. The week will be jam-packed with events and activities to mark the occasion.

The festival will be kicked off on Thursday, the eve of St Brigid’s Day with the Brigid’s Eve Ritual at St. Brigid’s Well. A spiritual occasion to mark the coming of spring, this event will be one of quiet reflection, song and prayer.

To celebrate the main event on February 1st, a weaving workshop will take place in Solas Bhride Centre, where visitors can learn to weave a St Brigid’s cross.

Saturday 2nd is one for all you plant enthusiasts out there. Elizabeth Murphy of Willow Wonder will share her knowledge by planting and weaving a willow bower at Solas Bhride Centre. Admission is free and please wear suitable outdoor clothing.

The Féile Bríde concert will take place on Sunday and is an event not to be missed over the festial. Critically acclaimed tenor Patrick Hyland will perform an evening of popular classics and favourite melodies. Tickets are €20.

Tuesday brings the Sacred Dance – a morning of gentle movement that refreshes the mind, body and spirit.

A lecture on St Brigid around europe will be delivered by Dr. Shane Lordan on Wednesday at 8pm in the Kildare Education Centre. The talk is free and has proved an interesting listen.

On Thursday February 7th, a morning of quiet reflection will be held in the Solas Bhride Centre, followed by an evening celebrating local poets, writers, musicians and dancers at 7pm in the Kildare Town Library.

February 9th will be host to the Afri Justice and Peace Conference, taking place in the Solas Bhride Centre. This event will see speakers like Richard Moore.

Richard, whose living example of compassion is such that the Dalai Lama calls him his hero, will speak about ‘Education the Heart’ in the context of his extraordinary story.

Caoimhe de Barra will also take part on Saturday. She has devoted her energies to pursuing justice and human rights.
