Kildare Derby Festival Events

The Festival of the summer is back, celebrating one of the world’s greatest race The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. The Festival will feature a mix of virtual and live* events this year.
The current line up of exciting line up of events include the following but there will be more to add to the week long extravaganza.

Enjoy a variety of family themed events.
A beautiful range of ceramics, oils, chalk and watercolours from established artists will be on display in Sult Art Gallery at Bolands, Market Square. Open 17-20 June and 24-27 June from 11am to 7pm and 21-23 June from 11am to 6pm.
Launch of Racing Legends Exhibition, located in the old Court House, open to the public throughout the festival week. The exhibition will provide an exclusive opportunity to view rarely seen memorabilia of great trainers, owners, jockeys and racing families from The Curragh. Racing colours, video footage, race cards, saddles and much more.
Tune into ‘Kildare Derby Chats’; a podcast on June 20th from 7pm with speakers such as Johnny Murtagh, Jim Kavanagh, Willie McCreery, Dessie Scahill and Cathal Daniels, Irish Olympic team jockey and silver medallist at World Equestrian Games. Organised by Hive Youth Radio and hosted by television presenter Kevin O’ Ryan, racing enthusiasts can keep up with all the latest Derby updates while being entertained along the way.
Those looking for something special will be suitably impressed by a kite display that is due to take place on The Curragh over the festival weekend. The visual spectacular will feature the creations of teenage students from local schools, who will make the kites during a workshop earlier in the month as part of the annual Cruinniú na nÓg festival.
GAA Football Relay at Moorefield GAA Club at 11.30am – a family friendly event in collaboration with June Fest who will “pass the festival baton” to the Kildare Derby Festival. The event involves GAA clubs from Newbridge, Kildare town and surrounding areas who will compete in a relay for a shield.
This year the Thoroughbred Runs Kildare will take place over three days – 5km on Friday 18 June at 7pm, 10km on Saturday 19 June at 10am and the half-marathon on Sunday 20 June at 10am. Starting and finishing in Kildare town. Registration is now closed.
An open air Derby Quiz will take place in Market Square, Kildare town on 20 June at 6pm (time TBC).

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival of Racing at the Curragh 25 to 27 June featuring the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Saturday. A very limited number of people will be permitted into the grounds for festival (in line with Government advice), so for many racing will be held behind closed doors for the second year in a row – you can follow all the action, and view the race card at www.curragh.ie
A Photographic & Art Exhibition displaying works from local artists will take place from 21 to 25 June in Aras Bhríde from 10am to 4pm (admission free).
