10 Things to do in Kildare on Culture Night 2021

The sixteenth edition of Culture Night is taking place in just over one week on the 17th of September and Kildare is jam packed with fabulous events that celebrate all the wonderful things that make up the richness and diversity of the culture in Ireland.

Whether you’re a foodie, a music lover or an arts and theatre enthusiast, there is something for you. Here at Into Kildare we have compiled a list of 10 events that are taking place in Kildare on Culture Night 2021 that are sure to spark your interest. Here are a few events that we picked out to give you a taste of what the talented people of our county are doing to celebrate Culture Night 2021:


Sacred Tattooing Through the Ages – Tattoo Culture with Aisling Mahon


In conjunction with Newbridge Library, Aisling and Vika of Aisling Mahon Tattoo are hosting an online talk delving into tattoo culture including their role in sacred ceremonies and their evolution through the ages. This talk will allow you to spend an hour with Ireland’s leading restorative tattoo artist and become more educated on tattoos in sacred rituals and medical tattooing in modern times.

Live African Music & Dance from RCCG Leixlip


Although you will be watching this event online from the comfort of your own home, you will be celebrating the sights and sounds of Africa through music, dance and attire with the RCCG Covenant Parish of Leixlip and Leixlip Community Library. Watch the live performance via Zoom and enjoy a taste of the culture of Kenya, Zimbabwe and Ireland.

Culture Night at the Curragh Céilí


The Curragh Family Recourse Centre Drumming Group in collaboration with St. Brigid Pipe Band and the Curragh Droichead Nua Irish Figure Dancing are hosting a fabulous evening full of song and dance that best represents the Irish culture.

The event will take place in person so why not try your hand at a jig and learn from the best at the Curragh Céilí?

St. Mary’s Brass and Reed Band


Join St. Mary’s Brass and Reed Band in the Court House Square Maynooth as they play a selection of music that is to everyone’s taste from marches to Abba to The Beatles and many more!

Clay Lantern Workshop with Florence & Milly


Up next we have one for all the arts and craft lovers out there!

Get crafty with Florence and Milly as Laura hosts a wonderful workshop to make beautiful autumnal tea light lanterns. The event will take place in Florence & Milly ceramic studio and coffee bar in Sallins and is running workshops late into the evening to get the most out of Culture Night 2021.

Fizz & Chips Productions: Live in the Garden


In celebration of Culture Night, Fizz & Chips Productions presents 2Live in the Garden’, an eclectic variety performance event with showcases a selection of local talents. The event will take place in Kilcock Community Garden and features an array of performances from comedy to music to theatre.

To the Waters and the Wild


Join Athy Library for a night of music, words and song celebrating Culture Night and the Life of John Shaughnessy from the banks of the River Barrow.

The night will include songs from Shane O’Sullivan, Oisin Fitzgerald among many other talented Trad Groups who are performing on the night. Ryan Hennessy will also recite a poem form his soon to be published book of poetry ‘Syncopated Blue in celebration of John’s life and also the town and community of Athy.

It's Showtime! - Clane Music & Dramatic Society


On Culture Night, it’s showtime with Clane Musical and Dramatic Society as they perform a selection of songs and scenes from iconic shows from The Abbey in Clane.

Sunny Side Up with County Kildare Orchestra


County Kildare Orchestra are delighted to host a virtual evening of songs that are bound to impress on Culture Night.

Although restrictions may have posed a challenge to the orchestra and their practising, they have overcame it tremendously and have used technology to bring 45 members together and use the best sound engineering techniques to still allow for doing what they do best.

An Evening of Soulful Piano Music with Joseph Hong


On Culture Night, join Joseph Hong for an evening of soulful, emotional and uplifting piano music. Enjoy popular piano pieces, blues, movie music by Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, Yiruma and many more on Celbridge Main Street.
