Donadea Forest Park

Donadea Forest Park is situation in northeast Kildare on 240 plus hectares of mixed woodland for a great day out.

Owned by the state since 1935, there area many historical features to see, including the remains of a castle, walled gardens, church, tower, ice-house, boat house and the lime tree avenue.

There is a small cafe, in case you forget the buns for your picnic and there are many different walks to suit all abilities, to walk off those calories.

And, you can’t have a picnic without feeding the ducks! In Donadea Forest Park, there’s a 2.3 hectare lake with ducks and other birds. It’s a quacking place for family fun.


Curragh Plains

Newbridge, County Kildare

The Curragh Plains falls over 5,000 acres of grasslands. Yep, you heard right so you won’t be vying for room to put down your picnic blanket!

Spend your time here flying a kite, playing tag, walking, cycling or even just lying down and counting the clouds – but there’s not going to be many of them anytime soon. Yippee!


Mullaghreelan Wood

Kilkea Castle, Mullaghreelan

Mullaghreelan Wood is a three-course meal in terms of a day out! The picturesque old woodland estate offers a very unique experience with spectacular views over east Laois.

The Coillte wood, near Athy, was the birthplace of St Laurence O’Toole, former Archbishop of Dublin, whose heart is preserved in Christ Church Cathedral.


Clonfert Pet Farm

Maynooth, Co. Kildare

The pet farm has over 60 different types of exotic animals for the whole family to enjoy after devouring the ham sarnies and the bread sticks!

The farm has a number of different picnic areas as well as two outdoor children’s areas, go karts, mini-golf and a football pitch. Better pack some extra food!
